Illegal Model Number — controllers 1234 / 1236 / 1238

Possible causes (from the Curtis manual)

1. Model_Number variable contains illegal value (not 1234, 1236, 1238, or 1298). 2. Software and hardware do not match. 3. Controller defective.

When it sets / how it clears

Set: Illegal Model_Number variable; when KSI cycles, a check is made to confirm a legal Model_Number, and a fault is issued if one is not found. Clear: Download appropriate software for your controller model.

Effect of the fault

Curtis 1234/1236/1238 controllers are fitted to many electric forklifts and industrial trucks (including models from Chinese brands that use Curtis control). If your display shows code 98 with a Curtis controller, this entry applies; the vehicle maker’s manual may add model-specific notes.
