About CodeMechanic — methodology & sources
What this site is
CodeMechanic is an independent fault-code reference for construction machinery, forklifts and industrial vehicles. Every entry is compiled from a named public source — a factory manual or a public code listing — shown at the bottom of each page. We do not invent code meanings: if a code is not in a source we can name, it is not on this site.
Sources used so far
• Curtis 1234/36/38 Controller Manual, OS 11, Table 5 (factory manual, public copy).
• Public Caterpillar fault code list (thecampingadvisor.com), FMI definitions cross-checked against SAE J1939.
• SAE J1939-71 FMI definitions (public standard references).
Coverage & limits
Fault codes only exist on electronic machines. Older mechanical machines have no ECU and no codes — their diagnosis is symptom-based, which is a different library we plan to add later. The same numeric code can mean different things on different models; always confirm against the service manual for your exact model and serial number before ordering parts or attempting repair. Nothing here replaces a qualified technician, especially for safety systems (brakes, steering, lifting).
Affiliation & corrections
CodeMechanic is not affiliated with Caterpillar, Curtis Instruments, Toyota, Komatsu or any other manufacturer; all trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the machines the codes apply to. Found an error? Send the code and your manual reference on WhatsApp (link on any code page) and we will correct it with the source noted.
